A few months ago, I started recruiting volunteer accountants and bookkeepers to help me create a QuickBooks implementation for Renewables.org based on the system I created to enable Global South solar crowdfunding. After a few conversations, I realized I was the only person who really understood how everything fit together, so I created a diagram to share it with customers and stakeholders.
It might look complex at first, but I think after watching the video walkthrough provided, you’ll see that it’s actually quite simple. The diagram illustrates the following:
- The flow of investment funds from user accounts into renewable energy projects.
- The flow of debt repayments (both principal and interest) from Global South solar projects back to users and Renewables.org’s operating budget.
- Categorization of operational expenditures, such as contractors, travel, technology, marketing, legal fees, and administrative costs.
- The flows of funds from investors and donors into either Renewables.org’s operating budget or its investment fund.
My aspiration for Renewables.org as it grows is that it will offer a high level of transparency embedded within the product. This diagram is a step towards that goal. I encourage you to explore it and reach out to me directly with any feedback or questions. A link to the FigJam document where it lives can be found here.
